under the bridge
just shot and wrote a medical feature on a baby with hydrocephalus. the baby looked ok, his head wasn't as big as other stories i've made. the clincher with this story was that he lives with his family under a bridge in the Quiapo area.
this was the very first time that i went to a place where people lived under a bridge. i was just thankful that it wasn't smelly, so i was able to do the shoot. sorry, i can't think straight when something smells bad! maarte ako sa ganyan.
we weren't able to shoot in the room that they occupy - we couldn't fit. it would have been me, the mom carrying the baby and the cameraman. and to get into the room you'd have to stoop low and kind of crawl towards the room that was at the end of a hallway. instead the cameraman shot the family inside the room.
luckily there was an area by the creek (estero) that we could do the interview, the bridge was behind us. i did a spiel because i know that doing it there would have more impact than just doing a voice over.
all i can say is wow...you can watch the news or a program about people living in those areas, but it really is so different to actually go there and see it.
